Antonietta Mastroianni

Chief Digital & IT Officer Proximus

Antonietta Mastroianni is a visionary and influential IT leader with over 20 years of international experience in the IT, digital, and telecommunications industries. She is the Chief Digital & IT Officer at Proximus, the largest provider of telephony, internet, television, and network-based ICT services in Belgium, where she leads digital transformation, IT, data transformation, AI, and cybersecurity, key pillars of the company’s strategy. Before joining Proximus, she served as Group CIO and CDIO at Danish TDC, Head of IT and Business Partner at Swiss Sunrise, and held several roles at Swisscom and H3G Italy.

Antonietta Mastroianni is passionate about leveraging technology to deliver business value, customer satisfaction, and social impact, while fostering a culture of collaboration, diversity, and inclusion. She has a proven track record of driving innovation, efficiency, and agility in complex and competitive environments, and enabling new revenue streams and business models with 5G, cloud, and data.

As an IT leader, Mastroianni utilizes technology to spearhead organizational growth, performance, and profitability. Her focus encompasses digital and agile transformation, exploring the impact of leading-edge technology on business, technology, and product innovation, as well as IT and telco transformation. “Building bridges, not walls” characterizes her approach to partnerships. Recently, she used these exact words to announce a new extensive partnership with Infosys—a strategic collaboration around digital identity and CPaaS solutions for Proximus Group’s international affiliates.

Her biggest challenge today is to modernize the architecture within Proximus to better integrate all digital services. She is executing a plan to, on the one hand, lay the foundations for versatile services, digital ecosystems, Gen AI-native services, and a future-proof delivery model. On the other hand, she is working hard to further optimize digital channels to ensure a digital-native user experience, including continuous improvements to the app, webshop, and customer service, while leveraging the potential of data and AI.

Antonietta Mastroianni is one of the nine members of the executive committee, or “The Leadership Squad” as Proximus calls it. Along with Anne-Sophie Lotgering (Enterprise IT Services & Segments Lead), they are the only two women in the squad. Mastroianni is also an active board member and advisor for several organizations and initiatives that promote the advancement of the telco sector, data and cloud sovereignty, and women in technology. She has received multiple awards and recognitions for her leadership and achievements, including Telco CxO of the Year 2021, Telco Woman of the Year 2022, Network X 50 2022, InspiringFifty 2022, and On-Conferences Technology Professional of the Year Award 2024.

As part of her GAIA-X Board mandate, Antonietta Mastroianni is set to launch Belgium’s first “GAIA-X Digital Clearing House” at Proximus. This fully digital, API-based solution will verify and certify ecosystem members for secure data sharing, enabling initial proof-of-concepts and aligning Belgium with EU adoption efforts.

In addition to her passion for technology, Ms. Mastroianni is a dedicated painter who launched a fully digital art exhibition in virtual reality (https://www.amas.world/) with Proximus colleagues. Committed to diversity, she also highlights women in tech through interviews, showcasing their contributions.

Mrs. Mastroianni studied Computer and Automation Engineering at the University of Siena and is a member of the Order of Engineers of the Province of Caserta. She also holds the VC Finance seat on the Board of Directors of Gaia-X—an initiative to develop a federated secure data infrastructure for Europe—and is a Board Observer at Lumine Group. Additionally, she serves as the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors at Proximus Ada, an innovation and expertise center dedicated to artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
